Deutsche Welle Festival Concerts

DW SERIES with fresh performances from Germany.

A new season at Germany's top music festivals: sterling performances by the world's top stars performing in Germany's palaces, churches, and concert halls - and a front row seat is reserved for your listeners.

Broadcast rights allow PRX subscriber stations to use any or all of the programs in the series that have been already been published, or subscribe to the series to receive the files automatically each week.

DW Radio and PRX are thrilled to announce 26 brand new episodes of Deutsche Welle Festival Concerts for 2018/2019. Host Rick Fulker transports your listeners to some of the most exciting classical concerts of Germany’s festival season.

With more symphony orchestras than the rest of Europe combined, where else on the planet but Germany could your listeners find more musical excitement and diversity? And the German festival season is notably international.

We'll take you there for a parting glance at the Simon Rattle era with the Berlin Philharmonic, and for that orchestra's opening of a splendidly restored opera house in Bayreuth. Hint: it's not the one designed by Wagner!

From the extreme eastern edge of Europe, conductor Teodor Currentzis has been making musical ripples across the continent and now takes over the Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart. We have their first get-together. Meanwhile, the West German Radio Symphony Orchestra Cologne celebrates its 70th anniversary together with violinist Arabella Steinbacher.

The festival called Heidelberg Spring explores unity and diversity in European music – and the cultural heritage of the lied.

Four youth choirs and two youth orchestras from five countries assembled in the Cologne Philharmonie for a moving performance of Britten's War Requiem subtitled "May War Rest in Peace." We delve into Dresden's musical tradition with a period instrument orchestra specially devised for that purpose.

We also mark the 100th birthday of German composer Bernd Alois Zimmermann – and the yearly opera gala in Bonn gives a one-stop hearing of the most in-demand singers in Europe's opera houses. Of course there's our yearly visit to the Bachfest in Leipzig, which is definitely on an upswing.

Recording quality: Made in Germany. Audience excitement and ambience: palpable. Host and producer: Rick Fulker, eager to share it all in 26 programs in the fall and winter quarters.

Carry the entire series or use the programs as needed: With 364 days from release to expiration, the rights window is generous.

Stations may subscribe to the full 26-part series via PRX SubAuto, or may download individual episodes, including those from the past season whose rights windows are still open.

Each program lasts one hour and fifty-eight minutes. Promos provided, and we'll be happy to do custom-made promos if requested.
